Memoir and Creative Nonfiction
Working with an author is a sacred partnership. It goes beyond applying the cut-and-dried conventions of literary expression. As much as possible, I like to imbibe the author's intent and sensibility to create a synergy that elevates the work beyond what it might have been otherwise.
There is something about words and their use that has inspired me for as long as I can remember. Language is the great invoker and shaper of the life force that urges itself through us. As important as any meaning conveyed is the accompanying feeling. This synergistic realm of wholeness is where I live with words. I feel them as much as I see or hear them.
I first seek to understand the author’s intent and motivation for writing their book. Getting to know them and what makes them tick is foundational to my serving them well. A broader, unbiased view of the project within that context often unlocks an unexpected and more exciting direction of expression that is ultimately more fulfilling for the author, as well as the reader. At the end of the day, clearly expressing the author’s voice and vision is the prime directive.
I often work with authors who wish to elevate the human condition toward greater unity—to help usher in a new humanity. We all exist in unity through many dimensions. Authors who may fear the slings and arrows of mundane opinion will find an appreciative and encouraging presence here. Having traveled widely in this world, as well as realms within, I celebrate others’ ideas, cultures, and perspectives along with my own. Book coaching and editing are lovely eddies within a larger stream.
Birthing a book from concept to completion can seem a daunting enterprise. As your book coach, we navigate that road together, one logical step after another, often discovering unexpected byways as we go. You may think of me as your personal pathfinder, offering companionship, guidance, and encouragement along the way.
I also offer full-spectrum editing depending on the needs of the project, whether structural, copyediting, proofreading. I can add editorial value in any mode where words are gathered together, be it poetry, prose, or drama. However, the genres that appeal to me the most are memoir and other types of creative non-fiction.
I currently live in Kerrville, Texas, in the Hill Country west of San Antonio with my wife, Jaelin, and our two cats, Lucy and Phoebe.
I am an inveterate seeker in ever-expanding experience and understanding. I practice meditation daily, and I joyfully embrace any opportunity that may help us figure out what the heck we’re all doing here and how best to do it. I seek to be of the greatest service to all I encounter and to the One Life we all share.
