Epic Fantasy, Young Adult, and Memoir
I love helping authors produce their best work. As a reader, I’ve had a personal love of fantasy and young adult novels for most of my life. I’ve also found life stories interesting, which is why memoir is one of my specialties. The authors I work with are wonderful people with whom I share a passion for great storytelling and clear communication.

I have been an editor for over 10 years. I've edited 17 books for independent novelists and memoirists, and I've also worked successfully with educators, essayists, entrepreneurs, and publishing companies. I studied under Caitlin Pyle of Proofread Anywhere and Duncan Koerber, Ph.D., and I pay detailed attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, word choice, sentence structure, character development, and plot development.
One book I'm particularly proud to have worked on is Face Your Fears by Bill Mathis. I was hired on as an editor for the book, but also as a consultant regarding disability. I admire Bill for actually caring to get the experience of a person with spastic quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy right, by asking questions of someone who has the condition—myself. I admire him for his dedication to showing Nate as a full person with thoughts, needs, and dreams. Nate is not just his disability. Bill's writing is so engaging and thoughtful.
It is important to choose an editor you feel understands your vision and that you enjoy working with. The editing process can be a long one, and mutual goodwill is definitely a plus. Also, please discuss with your editor the different types of editing and which one might best be suited for where you are in the process of writing.
I offer two options for editorial feedback, depending on where you are in the writing process.
A Spark Call is useful when you haven't yet put pen to paper, but you have an idea that's keeping you up at night and you need a gentle push to begin and keep writing.
A Manuscript Review Call is useful when you have a manuscript—I'll read the whole thing, making detailed notes as I go regarding strengths and weaknesses, then schedule a call to discuss what the manuscript may need as well as next steps. The good news is I will gladly deduct the cost of these services from your full editing package should you wish to continue working with me.
In addition to my work as a book editor, I am also the ongoing editor for The Binnacle, a lifestyle and resource publication where disability is centered and celebrated as diversity. Here the challenges that come with living fully as a person with a disability are embraced with gusto, joy, and humor.
If you feel our values align, I would look forward to talking with you about your vision for your book!
