Fiction, screenplay, biography
As a screenwriter, I bring a keen knowledge of story structure to my work with writers. Sometimes books are the ultimate fulfillment for a writer. Other times, screenplays. For many, it’s both. And I love both forms of storytelling. Because I know how hard it is to face a blank page, I applaud anyone with the gumption to write a book or screenplay.

My favorite thing with books is seeing them reach their full potential. That may require just a proofread, a deep edit, or a complete rewrite. Or it may mean helping a writer catch the vision to turn it into a screenplay. Can you imagine if William Goldman just stopped with the book for The Princess Bride?
I’ve won over 40 screenwriting awards, optioned scripts, produced a few shorts, series, and films, and turned my own scripts into bestselling books. My background in screenwriting and music play a big part in my approach to mentoring writers. I consider myself a facilitator, coach, and mentor.
I meet the writer where they’re at in the process. I’ve created frameworks that are intended to give writers an “easy button” to move forward and to reach their writing goals as quickly as possible. New and experienced authors seem to love how I simplify story structure, the secret to white space, and other writing challenges.
I have my own processes to ensure there is structure to how we work together, but I am flexible, knowing there are a lot of idiosyncrasies that come with the creative mind. My focus is always to get to that polished final
draft, and whenever possible, I strive to do it as fast as possible. In my experience, a fast win creates momentum and gets results. I want that for my clients, too. While I love coaching and mentoring writers, I still love digging into manuscripts, offering a fresh perspective on structure, storytelling and content, as well as getting into the nitty-gritty of copyediting and proofreading.
Because I started out doing “coverage”—a term in the film industry for an initial assessment by a reader who grades a script with a “recommend,” “consider” or “pass” before sending it up the line to an executive decision-maker—I typically prefer to evaluate a manuscript before I edit. This allows me to set realistic expectations for both the writer and myself moving forward, with a clear roadmap in hand. Going in blindly into an edit does a disservice to everyone, in my experience.
I call the Treasure Coast of Florida, where pirates once roamed, home. I find it the perfect writing retreat for myself, and periodically I host retreats for others. My goal is always to spend more time playing volleyball, swimming, and spending time with family when I’m not writing or editing.
